All-Male ‘The Pirates of Penzance’
Deputy Stage Manager

Sep – Dec 24 | UK Tour | Regan De Wynter Williams

The Pirates of Penzance was presented as a musical theatre adaptation of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, touring to a broad UK audience. While retaining the structure and score of the original work, the production was reimagined to suit a musical theatre performance style and cast training.

I ran consistent performances as part of a close two-person stage management team supporting a touring cast of 17. Alongside calling the show, my responsibilities extended into company management, props, and set coordination. Strong communication and closely aligned working practices within the stage management team were essential to maintaining clarity and resilience across a demanding tour schedule.

Working with a cast trained primarily in musical theatre, I supported the adaptation of operatic conventions into a musical theatre framework, helping maintain musical accuracy, pacing, and performance confidence while preserving the integrity of the material.

This role required adaptability, musical awareness, and collaborative problem-solving to deliver reliable, high-quality performances across a variety of venues and environments.
